In a race that Pentagon officials hope will lead to technological breakthroughs in warfare, a team of Stanford robotics students have earned a coveted spot on the starting line of the cross desert race. The race will feature constructed vehicles guided by nothing but computers and sensors.
The Grand Challenge is a Pentagon sponsored event that took almost $9 million to pull off. The 2-mile track was designed to strenuously test the robotics of each vehicle. Vehicles were not allowed to have any type of human or remote control. GPS, or global positioning satellite, is allowed to help the vehicles respond to various obstacles. The Stanford robotics team set the bar with their vehicle completing the robotics course in about 10 minutes. They will continue on to the final race towards the end of the week.
Stanford Robotics Rule the Road
- A Variety of Entrants. The robotics entrants in this year's races range from souped-up SUVs to military behemoths and were graded on how well they navigated the tricky obstacle course.
- The Stanford Machine. The Stanford robotics team entered a modified Volkswagen Toureg with all of the bells and whistles.
- Military Minded. The Pentagon hoped that their robotics race would give them ideas for military machines for combat maneuvers.
The field of robotics has been brought back into the spotlight thanks to The Grand Challenge. Robotics are playing an increasingly important role in our lives as we search for ways to improve our productivity and increase our convenience. If you have an analytical mind and a penchant for machines, then robotics training may be just the thing for you to launch a new and exciting career. Here is the low down on the field of robotics.
An Online Robotics Degree Training
- Program Length. A good robotics program is typically a four year program from an accredited university in your area.
- Career Outlook. As the demand for robotics increases, you will be pleased at your employment outlook at the end of your online degree training.
- Online Environment. The online robotics training degree program offers you many benefits over the traditional campus that you will love.
