The race will feature constructed vehicles guided by nothing but computers and sensors. The Grand Challenge is a Pentagon sponsored event that took almost $9 million to pull off. The 2-mile track was designed to strenuously test the robotics of each vehicle. Vehicles were not allowed to have any type of human or remote control. GPS, or global positioning satellite, is allowed to help the vehicles respond to various obstacles. The Stanford robotics team set the bar with their vehicle completing the robotics course in about 10 minutes. They will continue on to the final race towards the end of the week.
